Surgery Tomorrow Updates Will Be Posted Here

Tomorrow is the big day. I will have the bilateral mastectomy and first stage of reconstruction. Ta-ta to the ta-tas. Bye-bye boobies. Thanks for the mammaries. Any other good ones? Add them to the comment section, but keep it clean please! My parents read this blog! Haha.

This site will be updated by my husband as soon as I’m out of surgery to let you all know how it went. But I have to share one funny story before I go gather all my things to prepare for tomorrow. It’s a cautionary tale as to why you shouldn’t allow your teenage daughter to access your phone for any reason:

I set up a group text of my caregivers for my darling Stuart to update when the OR nurse talks to him tomorrow. Remembering that I could name the group so that it would be easier for him to find on my phone tomorrow, I started studying the screen to find the right field to name the group text conversation. My helpful daughter grabbed the phone to show me what to do since, naturally, she does this all the time. I should have known something was up when she handed me the phone, laughing hysterically. Then she ran like the cackling, curly haired, double-crossing, double digit, adolescent she is. I looked down at my phone in horror when I realized she had named the group text: “Mommas boob change”! I don’t know what was more horrifying; the fact that she didn’t use an apostrophe or correct capitalization for a title, or that everyone might think that I came up with that ridiculous title. I renamed the group text without her ‘help’, thank you very much, then I chased her down and squeezed her tight and covered her with kisses. She’s been a real champ through this, and I’m so glad she still has a sense of humor.

And now I must go pack for another leg of the journey. Until tomorrow!

  5. Yolanda, I’ve had the pleasure to work with some of the most courageous and fearless members of the Navy’s finest. Granted they were much bigger and surely more athletic than that Sugar Bear physique we’ve come to love, thanks to James T Harris. Your positive attitude, love of life and family and perseverance, you are as fearless and courageous as any of those men. You are truly an inspiration.

  7. Praying that God will give the surgeon wisdom and his angels will control the surgeon’s hands so that everything will go perfectly well. Isaiah 41:10 “so fear not for I am with you. Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will help you. I will strengthen you. I will uphold you in my righteous right hand.”

You are in God’s hands and there’s no better place to be.

I will be traveling tomorrow, but my prayers will be with you.

  10. Your daughter is precious and very funny. You are blessed. I’m reading the Psalms. Many start with confusion and calling out for help. Much like each of us when life is difficult as often the case. But then the Psalm changes and there is joy, hope, and grace. I once again realize Jesus never fails. He is are constant Lord and Savior. Sorry words just kind of tumbled out and thought I’d share them. I will pray for you and your family and surgeons.

  14. You are much loved. It’s not about me however I want you to know that God has granted me a 22 year remission from Non Hodgkins and I was only supposed to have 8. You are here for a reason. I’m sorry you have to go through this. I know who you trust. One thing cool is that many doctors and nurses understand real prayer. Praying for you.
