Does anyone else think that Barry from Hawaii is a little late to the race baiting conference? Does anyone wonder if there is an ulterior motive to him stepping up the black injustice rhetoric?I have to ask because it just seems odd that the first black president, who is also the worst black president, is the one shouting loudest with the cry of racism and inequality.
He reminds me of the kid in college from Detroit who drives a luxury car, lives in a posh off campus apartment, and shows up at the black student union in the biggest, loudest dashiki possible. By the end of the first semester, this kid has started his dreadlocks and is purposefully antagonistic to every authority figure possible. He majors in African studies and swears that he will never work for ‘the man’. Of course, he becomes ‘the man’ he would never work for— but that happens later.
Let’s look at how Barack neé Barry has done according to numbers provided by Lauren Victoria Burke of NewsOneNow With Roland Martin:
Unemployment. The average Black unemployment under President Bush was 10 percent. The average under President Obama after six years is 14 percent. Black unemployment, “has always been double” [that of Whites] but it hasn’t always been 14 percent. The administration was silent when Black unemployment hit 16 percent – a 27-year high – in late 2011.
Poverty. The percentage of Blacks in poverty in 2009 was 25 percent; it is now 27 percent. The issue of poverty is rarely mentioned by the president or any members of his cabinet. Currently, more than 45 million people – 1 in 7 Americans – live below the poverty line.
The Black/White Wealth Gap. The wealth gap between Blacks and Whites in America is at a 24-year high. A December study by PEW Research Center revealed the average White household is worth $141,900, and the average Black household is worth $11,000. From 2010 to 2013, the median income for Black households plunged 9 percent.
Income inequality. “Between 2009 and 2012 the top one percent of Americans enjoyed 95 percent of all income gains, according to research from U.C. Berkeley,” reported The Atlantic. It was the worst since 1928. As income inequality has widened during President Obama’s time in office, the president has endorsed tax policy that has widened inequality, such as the Bush Tax cuts.
Education: The high school dropout rate has improved during the Obama administration. However, currently 42 percent of Black children attend high poverty schools, compared to only 6 percent of White students. The Department of Education’s change to Parent PLUS loans requirements cost HBCU’s more than $150 million and interrupted the educations of 28,000-plus HBCU students.
SBA Loans. In March 2014, the Wall Street Journal reported that only 1.7 percent of $23 billion in SBA loans went to Black-owned businesses in 2013, the lowest loan of SBA lending to Black businesses on record. During the Bush presidency, the percentage of SBA loans to Black businesses was 8 percent – more than four times the Obama rate.
Barack Obama is that guy who has become ‘the man’. Now that he’s ending his reign as the worst president for black Americans ever, he’s all of a sudden growing proverbial dreadlocks. The Obamas have to make a living. Or as Bill Clinton has recently famously stated, “Somebody has to pay the bills.” It began in February of 2014 when Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper. Ironically, he hasn’t been his brother’s keeper literally or figuratively since the world has known Barry’s new name, but what is an ex-president with no accomplishments or real legacy to do? Cry racism and link arms with the most entitled, unaccountable race baiter around of course! By my count from the White House Open Records Request, as of January 26, 2015, president Obama has received Al Sharpton in the White House more than 90 times since 2010. That’s a whole lot of access with absolutely no positive policy results for two men who are joining arms to fight for black folks in America-or are they? Civil rights leaders aren’t holding each other accountable and they sure aren’t holding the president accountable.
That brings me to this conclusion: With the absence of Jesse Jackson on the black justice scene there is an opening for a new Justice Brother. Barack Obama is just the man to step into that role. He can fly around and make pretty speeches about inequality, have a foundation similar to the Clintons, and collect speaking fees while delivering no results. Actually, there are results. America is becoming more racially divided than ever. Obama and Sharpton will continue to deliver the very poison to black communities that hold them down.
You remember that fictional kid from Detroit I spoke of? The one with the luxury car and the affected outrage? He failed to mention that he was from posh Royal Oak and that his family’s money was from owning the liquor store chain that thrives in the poorest communities.
That’s Barack Obama, the new Justice Brother, making sure you get a 40 ounce of soul killing race hatred along with your malt liquor and cigarillos. Welcome to the new legacy.
