Our Story Airs on Thursday and I Got a New Attitude!

I am pleased to report that my ultrasound came back normal, and that the interview/story that Nadia Larsen and I did with Dan Marries airs on Thursday at 6pm Mountain Time on KOLD-13. I’ll also post up a link on this blog and my facebook page–about the story; not my ovaries. Only you die hard blog readers care about my ovaries.

So far, nothing really blog-worthy about Day Camp today other than my improved attitude. I realized this morning that, when I actually felt bad this week, I was making agreements with being sick. That won’t do. I had made a subtle shift to agree with the typical expectation of having cancer. I’m allowed to feel bad, but I don’t want to start expecting that as a way of life for the next few months.  Yes, I’ll be a little less energetic at times. Yes, I’ll have different cravings and appetite at times, but I am not my diagnosis! As I prayed this morning, I reminded myself of my healing according to Isaiah 53:5 and 1Peter 2:24, both of which remind us that by the stripes of Jesus we are healed, and thanked God for another day. Now this is not a name it claim it denial of my situation, but it is a determination to hold fast to that Hebrews 6:19-20  hope I’ve been speaking of “…as an anchor to the soul; firm and steadfast. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus our forerunner has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” Then God took me to Hebrews 4:14-16 and reminded me that “…we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.” So I get to “…approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”  What an attitude adjustment! It replaced dread of not feeling well with thankful expectation of the good that is coming.

I know that everyone approaches this type of journey differently, but this is how I get through. I’d be a hot(ter) mess without Jesus! I love staying physically occupied and spiritually encouraged in the Word.  If I could only figure out how to sleep Tuesday nights I’d be outstanding.  Today I’m going to try going to the gym and see how that works out (See what I did there? Gym and works out? Clever, no?). The nurses and other chemo day campers keep saying that people use that extra energy from the steroids to clean their houses at 1am. Yeah…not so much me. I’m more likely to be found blogging or playing facebook games, so I’d better find healthy ways to get some sleep.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments and prayers. I read every single one, and am so grateful for you all.

  1. Love the dress. You look gorgeous! Talk about energy! I can feel your energy through your words in today’s blog. Preach girl!
Love you and your attitude. Super proud of you.

  2. Yolanda, everything you are saying is in agreement with a book I am reading right now called Jesus Wept. It is available on Amazon and the author is Colon Clark. He has had his own struggles with cancer and is a pastor. He used to do my art sublimation work and that’s how we originally got acquainted before he became ill and sold his equipment. The book would really be an encouragement. His whole thing is that we need to believe and not doubt!!! Proud of you!!! Keep it up! Love that smile!

  3. Yolanda, you look beautiful! You are an inspiration. I know this journey is not one for the faint of heart but you have the most grace I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing!

  4. Your message today was full of hope and strength. And I felt you wrote it for me too. Life just seems harder these days and your attitude and trust in Jesus was a drink of cool water today. Look forward to the broadcast. A suggestion for your Tuesday night – put on your prettiest nightgown or pjs and dance under the stars until dawn. Love you girlie.

  5. Love to hear the joy of the Lord through your writings Yolanda! What an example of keeping your focus on Jesus. Lord I pray for this precious godly woman that You would completely heal her and that along this journey You will use her vessel to boldly proclaim who You are! I love you Yoli!
